Dairy Process & Thermal Engineering

Improve the control and consistency of heat treatment and hygienic processing.

A skid-mounted plate heat exchanger with holding tubes, actuated valves and a control panel, standing on a polished floor among stainless steel tanks.

Dairy processing is one of PrimeTech’s strongest areas of specialization. We support manufacturers with process design, parameter optimization, troubleshooting, product standardization, yield improvement and production-scale implementation.

Where we help

Milk reception, separation, standardization, pasteurization, homogenization, mixing, fermentation, UHT, aseptic interfaces and membrane processing.

Typical scope

Process mapping and parameter review; tubular/plate heat exchanger assessment; thermal-process validation by qualified specialists where required; UHT and aseptic integrity investigation; UF/MF/RO application studies and whey use; CIP route, coverage, flow, time, temperature, chemistry and cleaning verification.

What you receive

A process assessment, trial or validation protocol, operating recommendations and prioritized corrective actions.

Coverage areas

  • Engineering & Projects
  • Production & Product Technology
  • Quality & Food Safety

Technical & product areas

Capabilities

  • Dairy & Beverage Processing
  • CIP Systems

Detailed scope

  1. Core dairy processing

Review milk reception, clarification/separation, standardization, pasteurization, homogenization, mixing, fermentation, cooling and filling interfaces.

  2. UHT and aseptic systems

Assess heat-treatment equipment and operating windows for milk, flavored milk and suitable beverages; investigate fouling, cooked flavor, sedimentation and post-process contamination; review aseptic filling integrity.

  3. Thermal validation

Develop a validation scope for the specific product and legal context. D- and z-values and F are considered only where technically applicable and supported by qualified validation work.

  4. Membranes and whey

UF, MF and RO application review; protein concentration, cheese/labneh yield and whey treatment or use; evaluate membrane performance, cleaning and product quality.

  5. CIP engineering

Review circuit coverage, flow and return, time, temperature, chemical concentration and sequence; verify cleaning effectiveness and opportunities to reduce water, energy and chemical use. Design criteria are set for each circuit and soil load.

  6. Process control and data

Review sensors, calibration, divert logic, holding-time assurance, pressure relationships, temperature recording, alarms and trend data for pasteurization and other critical operations.

  7. Heat transfer and product quality

Assess fouling, regeneration, cooling duty, product residence time, homogenization and mixing effects on texture, flavor, stability and throughput.

  8. Cheese and fermented process design

Map coagulation or culture addition, cutting/cooking, whey removal, salting, fermentation, concentration, cooling and filling steps against product targets.

  9. Process SOPs and changeovers

Define operating windows, start-up/shutdown routines, product changeovers and checks needed to prevent mixing, misrouting and contamination.
